Hi, I'm Katerina from Fire Poppy Therapy! I understand that we can't just "find 5 blue objects around me" to be able to deal with life's stressors, so let's work together to find some practical ways to process, cope, and thrive in the spaces you're in. I aim to make the therapy experience authentic and validating for those I work with. Believe it or not, you do know and have intuition of what's best for you, so we'll spend our time working to get the echoes of naysayers out of your head and amplifying the encouragement from yourself and others. The approach I take with our sessions is a more relaxed style and I use a variety of techniques to inform how I support you. I value practical self care and coping strategies, honoring your roots, and empowering my clients with knowledge about how their body and brain work. I also like to balance humor with reflection, encouragement with accountability. Check out my website for more info and/or send me an email if you'd like to set up a complimentary 15 minute Zoom meet-n-greet. Whether we work together or not, I hope you find what you need. [**side note for any clarification purposes] I'm firmly supportive of the following Communities in alpha order: Armenian, Congolese, Haitian, NHAAPI, Neurodiverse, Palestinian, PGM (People of the Global Majority), Pro-Liberation, Queer, Sudanese, SWANA.

Supporting all phases of life in a culturally sensitive manner
I have over 35 years experience as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I offer compassionate, competent, and convenient therapeutic services to individuals, couples and families. The counseling I do tends to be shorter than most "traditional" therapy and is solution-focused in which we work on your goals and how to make changes in your life now. As with most counseling, the past is important, but I tend to help you work on how you can make your situation better today and in the future rather than spending many years re-examining the past. Issues clients typically bring in include stress, career/school issues, transitions, self-esteem, addictions, identity issues, relationship concerns, ACA/co-dependency and family issues. Besides my counseling practice, I have been an Adjunct Professor of Family Psychology at a local graduate school and run workshops for psychotherapists throughout the year. Please feel free to call me at 510/527-4011, or e-mail me, if you have any questions about my work or your particular needs. My website, www.franwickner.com , also has more information.

I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who specializes in anxiety, depression, and trauma work. I also work with adults and new parents to navigate managing their new identity and improve their parenting skills. My approach to therapy is personable and genuine. I find that my style is particularly beneficial to those looking for a safe space free of judgment while getting honest engagement. I’m expressive, use humor, and genuinely enjoy getting to be a therapist.
Therapist Kal Zeryihun values helping individuals identify and shift patterns of thinking, feeling, and behavior that keep them stuck so they can live more meaningful lives based on their values. She uses a mind and body-integrated approach to healing, such as increasing awareness of the gut-brain connection and incorporating mindfulness practices along with traditional Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Struggling to achieve a semblance of work-life balance while juggling the demands of a heavy academic courseload, and research, training, teaching, and employment opportunities? It is a privilege to work together with college and graduate students on increasing a sense of well-being and actualizing potential. I typically work with clients who are looking to live their best life in both the personal and academic realms, often focusing on goals related to academic success, career/post-college life decisions, dating, and relationships. I earned my doctorate from Fordham University in New York, and have had a wide variety of clinical experiences throughout my training and career, including work in community mental health clinics, and public and private schools. My experiences working with college and graduate students in a college counseling center in Brooklyn, NY, and my own experiences as a college and graduate student, sparked my enthusiasm for providing quality and compassionate therapy for those on an academic journey. I aim to partner with you on building upon strengths while creating a manageable action plan to help you explore the solutions you seek, and improve outcomes and quality of life. I offer in-person sessions at my office in West LA, as well as via telehealth.
We believe that all of us are looking for a sense of fulfillment and well-being in our lives. We experience this well-being as a sense of ease, unrestricted flow of life energy. However, when negative events happen and we perceive ourselves as broken, or not safe, we constrict the flow of well-being, resulting in feelings of pain, fear, anger, grief... The Process Model of therapy helps us to identify our constrictions and release them, allowing our life energy to flow freely again, bringing the sense of relief and re-connection to self, others, and the world around us. Coming into a counseling session is much like going on a tour to explore yourself: how you got where you are today, what you can do to set yourself free, what you can do to change your life. Our counselors are much like guides employed to walk with you on this journey of self-discovery; they invite you to look deeper beyond the story, stay in the present moment and keep the focus on yourself. They are trained to respect, trust, and follow your process into and through your unresolved issues, without judgment or agenda. We are a non-profit and charitable organization incorporated in the state of California since 1982, with a mission to train pre-licenced professionals in the skill and art of psychotherapy. We have many clinicians available to work around your schedule and price range. We are committed to offer therapy to people of all means and backgrounds, and welcome diversity in all its forms.

Life can be complicated, messy, and painful. I try to foster an environment in which it feels safe to talk about all of that messiness. I believe the human connection we form through therapy is key to healing and growth. If you choose to work with me, I will use our connection to determine when and how to shift in and out of various roles, so you might experience me as many things: investigator, mentor, observer, coach, ally. But above all, we engage together as fellow human beings living in this complex world, with the shared endeavor of improving your well-being. Good therapy relies on the fit between you and me. If something about my profile resonated with you, I would love to talk more. If you’re not sure about therapy or about whether I can help, maybe we can figure that out together. I charge nothing for our first meeting for that very reason. I’d like to hear your story.
My practice provides a space for you to be self-reflective, to learn, and grow into your potential.
