Therapists for college students near Georgia State University
I think it can be normal to find therapy awkward, uncomfortable, or anxiety provoking, especially at first, and so it is really important to me to help create a space that can be tailored to support you as much as possible. I collaborate with you to uncover what you value, the person you would like to move towards being, and together we create a path that helps you move in the direction you would like to go. I use an integrative, client-led and trauma-informed approach that blends complementary therapeutic modalities to hold space for both your mind and body in sessions. The heart of which is a desire to understand you, to invite in curiosity, and to help support you in embodying your potential. Empathy and compassion play a big role in this as well as a little laughter. I will also lean into activation, discomfort, and challenging you at times. This is done with the explicit understanding this is your place to let me know when it is too much, when it is a “no”, or when I’ve mis-attuned. I use a feedback-informed approach to learn how to better support you. Feel free to visit my website to learn more about my specialties and the therapeutic approaches I use. I'm happy to answer any questions. I look forward to connecting!

If you are LGBTQ+, polyamorous, kinky, or exploring your identity, it can be exhausting to live in a world that barely tolerates, much less affirms, every part of you. If you feel like you are drowning under the pressure of today’s demands, how are you supposed to find the energy to work on your goals, learn who you are, or take time to enjoy life? You may currently feel alone, unloved, or like you don’t deserve happiness. You might find yourself numb and in emotional pain, wishing people could see and understand your real self. You’re ready to get help, and you want a therapist that specializes in clients like you. I am a gay, transgender clinician dedicated to providing individual therapy to Georgia’s gender, sexuality, and relationship structure minority communities. I am passionate about my community and filling the gap in mental health care many of us experience. My services are also sex-positive, weight-inclusive, neurodiverse-friendly, and culturally-affirming. I offer both in-person and online sessions for your convenience and accessibility. Clients that work with me appreciate positive, gentle masculinity paired with the occasional dad joke. Hi there! I am a licensed psychologist in Midtown Atlanta. I enjoy helping with anxiety concerns, men's issues/masculinity, relationship and social concerns, and depression, as well as a number of other concerns. I also have extensive experience working with undergraduate and graduate college students. I integrate different approaches, but work mainly using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and relational/interpersonal techniques. Additionally, I specialize in mindfulness-based and self-compassion approaches and the use of mindfulness meditation. My aim in therapy is to create a space of warmth, openness, and support so that we can lean into the difficult areas of your life, work to understand the ways you could grow, and begin to address them. I work actively to help my clients open up to their thoughts and emotions while also helping identify changes they can make to live life more effectively. I am patient, relatable, and flexible in my work, and you'll find that I am a humorous and light-hearted person, too. I also aim to be direct and authentic, giving helpful feedback when appropriate. Check out my website to get a better sense for my practice and the way I work with folks! Hi, I'm Brittany! I'm an Associate Professional Counselor based in Midtown Atlanta, GA. I work primarily with young people and am particularly interested in working with individuals in the LGBTQ+ community. I typically serve clients working through anxiety, ADHD, depression, general life stress, minority issues, self-harm and suicidality, and more. I desire to help clients individually and focus on each person’s particular needs and wants. I approach therapy from a lens of being open, accepting, and trusting, and I believe in the power of a strong therapeutic relationship. Therapy isn't one-size-fits-all, so I'm always happy to chat to see if I might be a good fit for you. When I'm not in the office, I enjoy spending time in nature, crafting, reading, and playing with my cat. I offer a sliding scale rate based on income that ranges from $30-$150, but the median my clients pay is $60. If you'll be paying for yourself without parental assistance, you'll likely be eligible for the $30 rate.
I specialize in working with individuals who may be struggling with performance, anxiety and panic, life and faith transitions, sexual and gender identity, disordered eating, medical issues, depression, and relationship concerns. I also work with clients struggling with ADHD or OCD. I have experience working with clients individually, as couples, and in families. My recent experience with athletes and as a professor of a course in performance psychology allows me to apply that knowledge when working with a diverse array of individuals; not only athletes, but also those working in occupations that demand high levels of performance.
We might be a good fit for each other if: ○ You're wanting to explore your sexual or gender identity ○ You want to build a deeper relationship with Self ○ You want to sit with someone who shares a queer identity & understands the unique stressors our lived experiences come with ○ You want to explore somatic coping resources to add to your toolbox ○ You're exploring consensual non-monogamy or are in a relationship structure minority ○ You want to work on self-advocacy or people-pleasing You are the expert of your lived experiences and intuition. Ethical counseling is non-pathological and radically accepting. Together we can create what therapy looks like for you; time to pour into yourself and explore what could be. I am open, fluid, flexible, and radically transparent in my work, as I understand your trust is something to be earned.

As a licensed clinical psychologist, Gershom Lazarus draws from a background in physiology, neuropsychology, and clinical psychology to provide an integrated approach to assessment and treatment. He currently practices as a partner of IPD, an institute established over 40 years with offices in Georgia and Florida. Dr. Lazarus initially came to the United States as an international student and can relate to some of the seemingly unrelenting challenges facing students currently. The primary approach to providing care is rooted in developing an understanding of contributing factors at the physiological, neurological/neuropsychological, and psychological levels within the context of an individual’s behavioral and societal functioning. Each session aims to focus on understanding and psycho-education regarding the presenting issues, exercises for between sessions designed to practice strategies developed in-session, and ultimately “real-world” applications targeting areas of concern. While the initial focus tends to be managing the main areas of concern, the importance of growth and meaning are gradually introduced.

VIRTUAL THERAPY SESSIONS VIA ZOOM ADDED DUE TO COVID-19. LGBTQIA friendly. My practice is centered around human issues. Positive relationships are challenging to build. Whether its parent/child, husband/wife, wife/wife, husband/husband or any other combination. My goal is to increase communication, understanding and knowledge between people in order to create positive and productive growth. We will focus on barriers and obstacles that may be keeping us from living our best lives, and work together on mapping out a plan for success. As our society becomes more accepting of alternative relationships, the need for added support has increased. I offer that space where individuals can feel comfortable in knowing they are accepted. I am a fully licensed counselor focusing on sexual issues. This ranges from communication to sexual dysfunction and a variety of topics in between. Giving a voice to individuals who may be afraid to be heard is empowering and fulfilling. No one should be afraid to be happy and for me, it is my passion to be uplifting to all. My practice is based on the West side of Atlanta, but I have various satellite options around the city.
It takes courage and self-compassion to embrace vulnerability. As a therapist working with children, adolescents, and young adults, I strive to create a haven of unconditional positive regard that welcomes and values the whole person. My therapeutic approach is rooted in person-centered and attachment-based theories. I emphasize authentic, caring, empathetic, supportive, and collaborative connections. If you're navigating complex and challenging thoughts, feelings, or life experiences, I invite you to continue your journey of exploration and self-discovery with me. Together, we can explore and adjust pathways to develop safe and secure connections with yourself and others. I believe that healing, growth, and change are possible for everyone, both from within ourselves and through experiencing a genuine sense of belonging. Through connection, my hope is to invite and encourage a space for us to explore in depth the underlying challenges that may be causing current pain and stress. I earned my Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, specializing in Children's and Adolescent Counseling. I have five years of experience working with children and adolescents in the mental health field, working as a registered behavior technician (RBT) at an ABA clinic, a Family Case Manager at the Indianapolis Department of Child Services, and a Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Specialist in an elementary school setting. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, young professionals, and adults experiencing interpersonal intricacies, life transitions, executive functioning difficulties, self-esteem and self-image issues, and multicultural identity exploration and formation. I integrate a variety of theoretical orientations in sessions depending on each person's specific needs, such as narrative therapy, internal family systems, cognitive-behavioral therapy, client-centered therapy, and attachment theory. I work under the direct clinical supervision of Drew Phillips, LMFT, and the clinical direction of Meg McLeroy, LMFT.
