Hello and welcome! My name is Ali, and I am a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) in Massachusetts. Over the past five years, I’ve focused on supporting clients who identify as LGBTQ+, neurodiverse, and other marginalized communities, providing care that is compassionate, affirming, and tailored to each person’s unique journey. At Topsail Addiction Treatment in North Andover, we’re here for college students from Merrimack College—literally right down the street—and nearby spots like Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill or UMass Lowell, who are battling addiction while trying to keep their college life together. Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is built for students like you—maybe you’re a Merrimack Warrior stressed out from exams and turning to drinking or drugs to cope, or a commuter student from Lawrence feeling trapped by a gambling habit that’s spiraled out of control. We connect best with those who are juggling school, work, or campus vibes but finding that substance use or betting is throwing them off track. We’re a great fit for students who are ready to face the mess—whether it’s partying too hard to numb the pressure, skipping classes because of a hangover, or losing cash you can’t afford on bets—and want to get back to feeling steady without dropping everything. Our clients often share a craving to reclaim their focus—to nail that paper, hang with friends without needing a drink, or just wake up clear-headed. Located just a couple miles from Merrimack College in North Andover, we’re easy to reach from Andover, Methuen, or Haverhill, and we’ve got your schedule covered with morning, afternoon, and evening IOP sessions. Got daytime classes? Our evening options let you hit the books during the day and get support after. Whether you’re the social type who’s overdone it, the stressed-out student hiding a pill problem, or the risk-taker who’s in too deep with gambling, our IOP offers a no-shame space to figure it out with a team that gets the college grind. With flexible sessions to match your life—mornings for early risers, afternoons for between-class gaps, or evenings to keep your days free—we’re here to help you break free from addiction and get back to thriving. Ready to take control and still keep your college groove? We’re just down the road.

I collaborate with adults as they heal from trauma, anxiety, loss, depression, other mood issues, or any number of matters leaving them feeling somehow ineffective. As a clinician for over nineteen years, I will join with you to identify and transform painful obstacles, arising from past and/or present challenges, which hinder you from making healthy changes. Drawing especially from Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), we will journey together to access your core nature, the Self, more spontaneously. This leads to clarity and calm over internal and external challenges you face, resulting in heightened creativity and effectiveness with problem solving, relationship building, and goal attainment. I believe you possess all necessary strengths and pathways to answers for improving your life, but may be having difficulty accessing them at present. I welcome individuals who are gay, lesbian, or bisexual, including those questioning or seeking help adjusting to leading more open, fulfilled lives with however they identify themselves. The IFS model utilizes a non-pathologizing, mind-body focus. Drawing from the natural strengths existing within each of us, IFS and EMDR guide a person into taking the lead in one's own healing process, no matter how traumatic a background one may have lived through. On 5/4/14, I completed the Level 2 IFS training. On 3/12/17, I completed the basic EMDR training. I accept these insurances: BCBS and Medicare.

The desire for connection with others is hardwired into our brains. We want to be loved, to love, and to feel seen and heard by those we're connected to. Sometimes that doesn't happen and we're hurt, or we're scared to talk about how we feel because we fear being judged. Understanding who we are and how to best build healthy relationships is hard. It's even harder when roadblocks like infertility, unexpected pregnancies, or other issues related to family relationships are present. I provide therapy for people of all genders who are processing challenges related to identity, managing change, relationships, infertility, pregnancy, and parenting. My compassionate and direct approach provides a space for you to feel safe and supported.

If you’ve spent years feeling different, overwhelmed, exhausted from masking, or wondering why life feels harder than it seems for others, you’re not alone. I specialize in adult ADHD and autism evaluations for neurodivergent adults (ADHD, Autism, AuDHD), especially those identified later in life. My affirming, collaborative evaluation process helps you better understand lifelong patterns related to executive functioning, sensory experiences, emotional regulation, burnout, and relationships. I also provide neurodivergent-affirming therapy for adults seeking support, clarity, and self-understanding. Visit ashiftinfocus for more. We don’t need fixing- even if it feels like that. Therapy is a space to explore both the struggles and the beauty of being neurodivergent, with self-compassion, nervous system support, and real-world strategies. I also offer separate adult ADHD and autism evaluation services for those seeking diagnostic clarity. If life feels harder than it should, you’re not alone & you’re not broken. Many ND adults seek support after years of pushing through, masking and wondering why nothing ever quite fits. Support can help you understand yourself differently and move forward with less shame and more ease.

College is an exciting time though it can be an overwhelming one as well. College comes with its own unique set of challenges - increased workload, the need for greater time management, increased independence, and trying to find a good work-life balance, to name a few. College life can bring on new anxiety or exacerbate pre-existing anxiety, and managing this and coping in healthy and effective ways can prove difficult at times. Anxiety and stress can also trigger new or worsen pre-existing Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs), like Excoriation Disorder (skin picking) and Trichotillomania (hair pulling). If you are a female student struggling with anxiety and need help managing it, and/or are having a difficult time with BFRBs, I would love to work with you. Together we will work on identifying stressors/triggers as well as strategies and skills you can use to better manage your anxiety and/or your BFRB. I look forward to meeting you!

I am Counseling psychologist, and I've worked in college mental health for the last five years, first as a therapist at Syracuse University's counseling center, then at Rhode Island School of Design's counseling center. I both provided therapy, and helped train others to provide therapy. I love working with students and helping them adjust to being at a university, figuring out how to cope with the demands of college, and find their way in the university system to make sure that they have access to not just tools for their mental health- but access to academic supports, financial assistance, and resources to help them work with their faculty members. I'm a generalist- I work with people across a wide range of issues and identities, and so I really try to tailor what I'm doing to fit what YOU need. I also have specialised training in LGBTQ+ mental health and treatment for Trauma. I believe that we are whole people, and our identities, culture, and access to resources are important to understand, respond to and support in therapy. I both work to help you understand your experience so you can respond in new and creative ways, and also know and use pragmatic strategy-based approaches that give you concrete ideas how to take the next step. If that sounds like a fit for you, reach out and I'm happy to speak more!
