Are you the person that everyone else comes to for help, but you don’t quite know how to help yourself? Do you struggle with burnout at school or work, even though it's something you love? Is your loved one in the middle of a crisis, but you're not sure how to best support them while also protecting your peace? If any of these ring true, know that you've already taken the first step to help yourself by seeking therapy. Through our work together, we will develop a comprehensive plan that allows you to move towards what you want, rather than away from what you fear. I offer individual therapy that incorporates a range of therapeutic perspectives, tailored to your needs. Our sessions might include mindfulness, breath work, or other exercises that enhance the mind-body connection. I view therapy as one tool among many that you can use to help yourself, after spending so many years of your life helping others. Whether this is your first time starting therapy, or you're returning after some time away, I am honored that you're considering me. Our work together could be for a brief time (6-8 sessions) or longer term; it just depends on what works best for you!

School can be some of the most rewarding years of your life but they can also be overwhelming. Between classes, internships, work, relationships, family expectations, finances, and figuring out who you are and where you're headed, sometimes it's good to have some extra support. Therapy gives you a place to talk openly about what's going on, without judgment. Whether you're feeling anxious, stressed, burned out, stuck, lonely, or simply trying to make sense of a major life transition, you don't have to navigate it alone. I work with college and graduate students on concerns such as anxiety, self-esteem, relationships, identity exploration, gender identity, academic stress, life transitions, binge eating, and body image. Many of my clients are also learning how to manage life on their own for the first time and are discovering that no one ever really taught them how to handle the emotional side of money. As a Certified Financial Social Worker, I can help you develop a healthier relationship with money, spending, debt, budgeting, and financial decision-making. Together, we can explore both the practical and emotional aspects of financial wellness so you feel more confident and in control. My style is warm, supportive, and down-to-earth. I'll meet you where you are, help you build on your strengths, and offer practical tools along the way. If you're curious about working together, I'd be happy to schedule a free 15-minute consultation to see if we're a good fit.
I believe that all people are capable of change and have the internal capacity to shift unhealthy patterns in their lives. Sometimes, we need a little help because we get "stuck" in old patterns that have been well honed through past hurts or traumatic events and cannot seem to find a new path forward. This is not through a lack of desire of wanting it to be different, but due to the impact that these difficult and painful life events have had on the part of our brain that controls how we react to these stressors. When we experience deep pain-- through relationships, situations, or trauma--these experiences are stored deeply in the subcortical area of the brain. This pain remains there, unprocessed, and can cause disruptions in day to day life. This can look like over-reactions to noise/stress due to growing up in a chaotic environment, difficulty asserting yourself with heart palpitations and chest tightness due to that "bad boss" that berated you, stomach pain every time you drive by your ex's neighborhood despite the fact that you have not dated in years, or overwhelming grief each year when the anniversary of a significant loss occurs. While traditional talk therapy can be helpful, it is not able to access the deeper, subcortical areas of the brain. I utilize Brainspotting as a therapeutic technique, to support the brain's self scanning and self-healing capacity. Brainspotting enables you to access these stored experiences and integrate them in a more functional way. By utilizing an eye position relevant to the issue you are wanting to address, and a "felt sense" of this issue in the body, deep brain processing is able to occur. This bypasses the conscious, "thinking" part of the brain, and leads to lasting change. I also utilize a blend of other approaches including cognitive behavior therapy, mindfulness, directive and non-directive play therapy and draw from attachment based and neuroscience supported interventions in my work. Lisa Peaty received her Masters in Social work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has over 20 years of clinical social work experience, working with children, adults, and families and has spent the past 15 years practicing as a therapist in the Winston-Salem community. When not at work, she enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, baking, exercising and reading.

We are passionate about helping you achieve a balanced and fulfilling life and treating the WHOLE person. We use modern and evidence-based therapeutic techniques and are individualized and creative in our work with clients. Values: Authenticity, Creativity, Compassion, Education, Service, Showing up. This spells ACCESS. By definition, access is “a means of approaching or entering a place and the ability, right, or permission to approach, enter, speak with, or use.” Our hope is for every person to find permission to tend to their wellness and to have the opportunity to do so
We can all benefit from gaining insights, learning skills, and having “tune ups” along the way. If you’re feeling stuck, struggling with how you feel about yourself or in relationship with someone, experiencing unwanted or intrusive thoughts or memories from a past experience, ruminating on negative thoughts or beliefs, or feeling anxious or depressive symptoms, you don’t have to walk through it alone! Our therapists use various counseling approaches that include evidence based treatments like Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, EMDR, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Because we are out of network, we can also get creative within our work with you. We’ll utilize appropriate techniques such as music or walk-and-talk therapy and can even take “field trips” with you if we deem it beneficial in your treatment (ie- restaurant outings, exposure therapy for certain phobias, home visits, etc.)
Are you doing your best, yet life keeps demanding more? Maybe you’re facing change, feeling disconnected in your relationships, or struggling with anxiety or depression that makes everything harder. Are you tired of overthinking, holding it all together, and still feeling stuck? Do you want to feel steady again, to trust yourself, find balance, and breathe a little easier? You don’t have to do this alone. Therapy with me isn’t stiff or clinical; it’s a space to be real, reflect, and respond to life with confidence and self-compassion. I believe therapy should feel human and supportive. Growth happens when you feel safe enough to be yourself, not judged or pressured. My role is to create a space where you can slow down, breathe and explore what’s happening beneath the surface. Therapy is collaborative: you bring your story, strengths and insight; I bring tools, perspective, and compassion. Healing isn’t about “fixing” yourself; it’s about understanding yourself with kindness and curiosity. From that place, real change becomes possible. Together, we’ll work toward greater balance, peace, and connection with yourself and with the people who matter most. If you’re ready to reach out, I’d be honored to support you through whatever you’re facing.
Our approaches include strength based therapy, cognitive behavior therapies, creative approaches, EMDR, motivational interviewing, animal assisted interventions, and person centered approaches. Do you feel like you are strapped on a roller coaster of anxiety and depression and can't get off the ride? We can feel out of control because of life changes, relationships, and significant events. We can become stuck in our own unhealthy thoughts, emotions, actions, and responses. Sometimes we hyper-focus on relationships and fixing other people. Or we may develop unhealthy patterns when using things outside of ourselves to experience immediate relief and help us cope. This may include alcohol, marijuana, pills, food, porn, exercise, gaming, social media, shopping, and gambling. You need somewhere safe to talk about the hard stuff. Every person has difficulties that feel overwhelming at some point in their lives. Being willing to ask for assistance is a courageous gift to yourself. I find it gratifying to help people struggling with anxiety and depression related to challenges in life and relationships. You are worth your own effort in becoming a healthier version of yourself! I look forward to being a part of the journey!
