Therapists for college students near 27705
I work best with students who are navigating big life transitions, managing stress, or feeling overwhelmed by expectations—whether that’s from school, family, relationships, or themselves. Many of the students I have seen are deep feelers who carry a lot on their shoulders but don’t always feel like they can ask for help. They may struggle with anxiety, depression, identity exploration, or trauma from earlier life experiences. Therapy with me is a space to unpack all of that without pressure to be perfect. You don’t have to have it all figured out—just come as you are.
I have 15 years of experience as an LCSW-C supporting, educating and holding emotional space for young adults and their families. I have post graduate training with a Certification in Child and Adolescent Therapy, a Certification in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and am a Certified Anxiety Treatment Professional. I am also trained as an ADHD Coach for college students and young adults. I am a Certified Mental Coach for high school and college athletes. I work collaboratively with young adults and their families dealing with issues of anxiety, depression, family conflicts, sexuality, and childhood traumas. I partner with students and schools to support clients with ADHD and educational issues. I believe in meeting the client where they are and looking for therapeutic strategies that fit their lifestyle and background. Mental health is very personal, based on client experiences. I see therapy as a tool to help client identify strengths and teach effective coping strategies and skills they can apply to their lives now and for future struggles. I consider myself fortunate to be able to work in a profession that I truly love and I consider a privilege to be invited into my clients' inner lives, and to travel this journey with them through healing, change, and self-empowerment. I see therapy as a process of identifying strengths and struggles and teaching clients to harness their own power.

Trying to keep it together but low-key burning out? College hits from every angle—classes, social pressure, identity, and performance. Whether you’re a student-athlete or managing ADHD/Autism, it’s a lot. I blend psychology and performance tools to help you lock in, build resilience, and actually feel steady—not just push through.
I’m Robert G. Engle, LMHC, a virtual therapist specializing in EMDR therapy with student-athletes, college students, and high-performing individuals. I help clients work through performance anxiety, trauma, injury-related stress, fear of failure, burnout, perfectionism, ADHD-related stress, and identity strain. Many of the people I work with are used to performing well on the outside while feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or under constant pressure internally. My approach is thoughtful, direct, and collaborative. I help clients better understand what is happening beneath the surface while building regulation, resilience, confidence, and clarity under pressure. I am licensed to provide virtual therapy in both North Carolina and Florida, which makes this a strong fit for student-athletes and high-performing students in either state.

Healing happens when we feel safe enough to show up exactly as we are. All parts of you are welcome here. I’m not here to change you or fix you. I don’t think you are “broken” or that there's anything "wrong" with you. Together we'll create an accepting + compassionate environment, with respect for your intuition + body's wisdom underlying all that we do. I’m trauma + social justice-informed and view therapy through an intersectional lens (mind, body, environment, culture). During our time together, we’ll likely look at environmental factors (interpersonal, economic, oppression) that create individual/collective stress and trauma. I value equity, consent and boundaries in the therapeutic relationship and strive to create a space that is safe, non-judgmental and accepting. My approach is collaborative + holistic, centering around values of empathy, connection and deep listening. I’m Internal Family Systems-informed and incorporate somatic + mindfulness-based approaches into sessions. I provide an Autism-affirming perspective in therapy and believe Autism is a genetically-based neurotype, not a medical disorder. "I understand being autistic to be a cultural identity and recognize autistic people as experts on their own culture." (quote from Trauma Geek). Please visit my website for more information. Warmly, River (they/she)

I find it important to create a comfortable, nonjudgmental, and safe space for exploration into deeper meaning and understanding. I have experience with individuals specializing in work with adolescents, young adults, and adults. I am trained in therapeutic methods which include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), DBT, psycho-dynamic, IFS, EMDR, person-centered and solution focused therapy. I tailor the process to the needs, preferences, and strengths of each client. I specialize in working with individuals who may be struggling with anxiety, past traumas, disordered eating, confidence, feeling overwhelmed, or feeling inadequate. Some of my clients describe themselves as a "perfectionist". It’s exhausting trying to maintain the standards you hold yourself to when internally you’re feeling like things are falling apart. I take an empathetic and non-judgmental approach that creates a safe and warm environment allowing you to explore past traumas, feeling overwhelmed, anxious or inadequate. Please visit my website for more information. My practice offers a sanctuary for individuals who have endured past traumas or abuse, and for those who habitually set aside their own needs to care for others. I understand the profound frustration that arises when situations feel beyond your control. Through a blend of therapeutic approaches including CBT and evidence based somatic techniques, we'll explore the patterns that aren't working for your lifestyle anymore. Together, we'll work to uncover and address the roots of your challenges. My goal is to empower you to embrace vulnerability as a strength, enabling a transformative journey towards a more balanced, fulfilling life. Let's connect and build a genuine and authentic relationship that allows you to feel safe enough to be vulnerable.
As a trained social worker with 11 year’s experience in the field, I’ve worked in a number of settings including the school system, medical facilities, and group practices. I’m a helper at heart and some of my guiding principals as a therapist are: mental health and physical are interconnected and health is not defined by a number on a scale, human beings are innately wired for connection, and success and well being are completely subjective and shouldn’t be defined by anyone but yourself Relationships with others and ourselves are so impactful on our quality of life. By utilizing IFS, EMDR, Polyvagal Theory and Attachment Theory principals, we can gain better understanding on how we interact with the world. Some of my specialties include: ADHD and Neurodivergence Attachment and relationship work Boundaries Anxiety Depression Disordered Eating Stress management Life transitions Trauma
I am a board-certified psychiatrist in private practice. I work mainly through insight-oriented psychotherapy, but I also offer diagnostic evaluations and prescribing services. Patients see me for a variety of concerns around self-esteem, trauma, attachment, dependency, boundaries, self-criticism, and childhood abuse/neglect. These issues may lead to shame, guilt, anxiety, irritability, mood swings, perfectionism, self-loathing, or repeated conflicts with family, colleagues, or romantic partners. Therapy is a chance to think carefully together about your past and present experiences to deepen your insight into your situation. As we come to understand your inner world, I hope you will gradually notice a greater sense of flexibility, freedom, and openness to life's many joys and challenges. As a psychiatrist, I am happy to help with diagnostic clarification and medical treatment of most general psychiatric conditions including mood and anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, ADHD, and others. While medications alone often fail to address the deeper conflicts and traumas that cause our symptoms, a thoughtful approach to prescribing can help build a foundation for the personal work that leads to lasting change. I have special experience working with university students and early career professionals in medicine, academia, law, tech, and the arts. I enjoy working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, and I welcome and affirm those who may identify as LGBTQIA+ or neurodivergent.
