Therapists for college students near 27705
I am a graduate of Appalachian State University with a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy, and have been practicing for the past 17 years. I specialize in work with individuals, couples, families and teens, and have a focus in systems theory and narrative therapy. I prefer to work in collaboration with my clients to use the expertise that they have in their own lives to help find strategies that can help them build the life that they want. I am passionate about helping people work through and solve the problems that are important to them and I consider it an honor to be invited into the lives of my clients through the element of therapy.
My clients often struggle with challenges in their relationship’s whether they be romantic, friendly, or family relationships. My clients worry about abandonment, often finding issues from their past show up and negatively affect their relationships. Some feel they may be in a codependent relationship but not sure. Our work together will help you understand how past pain affects present relationships. Then we will work at unpacking that baggage, organize it, and put it away in a safe place. Although it may never truly go away, you can confront it in a way that allows you to move forward and find happiness. My goal is to get to know you and the issues that bring you to counseling. We will work together to help you establish a baseline of calm, good self-care, and coping skills. This will help you feel safe and secure before we dive into unpacking the things that are causing you pain. Together we will set goals, to help you realize all of your unique strengths, create healthy boundaries, and self-esteem to build a happier, healthier life, I look forward to working with you.
As a psychologist, one of the biggest part of my roles is to aid people with learning and understanding strengths/weakness and how to use these to increase goals they want and to reduce the negative impact on their life. I use testing and evaluations to understand and diagnosis the negative impact areas. Psychological evaluations are helpful when wanting to know your diagnosis, needing school accommodations related to mental health, ADHD evaluations to just name a few. My counseling specialty is with substance use and addiction, and even more specific in that field I enjoy counseling those with both mental health and addiction disorders. Many times specialized care is needed when you have both as focusing on one and not the other can lead to relapse in both disorders.
Hello! My name is Payton Austin, and I'm a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate with a special focus on supporting college students. The college years can be an exhilarating time of discovery, growth, and forging lifelong friendships. Simultaneously, it's also a period of significant transition, adjustments, and challenges that can evoke a range of emotions, from excitement to stress. Collaboratively, we'll work towards understanding the root causes of any distress or concern, and develop strategies and coping mechanisms that resonate with you. My therapeutic approach is integrative, pulling from cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, and person-centered therapies, tailored to suit your unique needs and strengths. Remember, seeking help is a sign of strength. Every individual's journey is unique, and I'm honored to be a part of yours. Let's take this journey together, ensuring that your college experience is not just about surviving, but truly thriving. Looking forward to our time together! Warmly, Payton Austin, MA, NCC, LCMHCA

I’m Sara Roesler, MSW, MPH, a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with 26+ years of experience. My approach is warm, collaborative, and practical — focused on helping you feel understood while creating meaningful, lasting change. You don't have to be in crisis to talk to a therapist. A lot of the students we work with come in because they're stressed, stretched thin, or trying to make sense of something they've been carrying for a while. At Banyan Tree Counseling & Wellness, we offer a steady, judgment-free space where you can be yourself, and our therapists partner with you to figure things out together. Beyond therapy, we also offer psychiatric medication management and nutritional services so you can get well-rounded care in one place, in person at our North Carolina locations or online, and we welcome students of every background, identity, and story.
I am a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I have over 10 years of experience using prazosin and doxazosin to treat PTSD related nightmares and flashbacks. My passion is raising awareness of this and helping people know that there is an effective treatment for this that they may not have heard of. I focus on treating flashbacks and nightmares with prazosin and doxazosin. I can work along with primary care doctors or psychiatric providers if they don't have the level of comfort with these medications. For more information visit my site: www.ptsdrx.org. I look forward to talking to you about how this medication can help relieve your symptoms.

You deserve healing and connection. Please reach out when you are ready.
I work best with students who are navigating big life transitions, managing stress, or feeling overwhelmed by expectations—whether that’s from school, family, relationships, or themselves. Many of the students I have seen are deep feelers who carry a lot on their shoulders but don’t always feel like they can ask for help. They may struggle with anxiety, depression, identity exploration, or trauma from earlier life experiences. Therapy with me is a space to unpack all of that without pressure to be perfect. You don’t have to have it all figured out—just come as you are.
