I believe that we never lose our creative spark, and that with the right tools, it can be accessed and implemented as a healing force. With creative expression, we can imagine real life scenarios through multiple lenses, and look into the past and the future through different perspectives. No matter your age, art making can be used to make sense of our emotional landscape, foster self-compassion and organize our thoughts, which can get jumbled in the hustle and bustle of life. I utilize an integrative approach that marries both Art Therapy and traditional psychotherapy. No experience using art materials is needed! I received my Masters degree from Pratt Institute, and have experience working with children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics in a private practice and hospital setting, including Yale New Haven Pediatric Hospital. I provide a person-centered approach based on my client’s personal needs, past experiences, beliefs, and goals. Through creative expression and psychoanalytic psychotherapy my clients have experienced increased hope for the future, a more positive mindset, decreased anxiety and stress, identity affirmation, behavior regulation and improved self-esteem. I look forward to embarking on the journey of self-exploration with you!

College and graduate school can be exciting, but they can also feel overwhelming. You may be struggling with stress, anxiety, low mood, loneliness, relationship challenges, questions about your identity, or the pressure to keep up academically while managing everything else in your life. For some students, adjusting to life away from home, navigating independence, or recovering from difficult experiences such as trauma or past hardships can make this time especially challenging. I'm Kate Conway, a Mental Health Counselor Fellow (MHC-F) at Modern Talk, working under the clinical supervision of our licensed directors. Working with college students and young adults is at the heart of what I do — I have a deep understanding of the unique pressures this stage of life brings, and I know how much courage it takes to ask for support when you're in the middle of it. My approach is rooted in psychodynamic and relational therapy — I work with you to understand the patterns, experiences, and relationships shaping how you think, feel, and move through the world, while drawing on practical, skills-based tools when the work calls for it. Whether you're looking for support during a difficult period, trying to better understand yourself, or hoping to build healthier coping skills and relationships, I'm here. I offer a warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental space where you can talk openly, gain insight, and develop the tools to navigate this chapter with greater confidence and resilience.

Psychologist
New York, NY

Dr. Marguerat Degaard is a New York State Licensed Clinical Psychologist. Her academic journey started in Switzerland with a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Geneva. Wanting to combine her passion for dance and the art of therapy, she came to the US and obtained a Master’s degree in Dance/Movement Therapy in 1986 from Hunter College, NYC. She worked as a Dance Therapist for 14 years, developing, implementing and supervising creative art therapies programs. In 2005 Dr. Marguerat Degaard received her PhD from Adelphi University. Since then she worked in hospital settings adding teaching and training to her work as a clinician. Throughout the years, she continued to receive education and training in different areas of interest. She has been in private practice part time and full time since 2015. Her approach is integrative and flexible greatly influenced and informed by her artistic background. Her many years of work in the mental health field has taught her profound humility in the face of the deepest layers of humanity. She views psychotherapy as an in-depth collaborative and creative process which expands and frees self-expressions allowing untold stories to be told, contradictions to be bridged, and emotions to be touched or re-touched towards richer and healthier self-understanding and life experiences. She offers psychotherapeutic services in English and French. Her method will encourage and mobilize what she calls the 3 Cs in her patients, i.e. courage, curiosity and creativity. She will support the courage it takes to embark on the therapeutic journey, she will foster a deep sense of curiosity in one’s experiences that help shape one’s humanity through self-reflection and self-exploration work, and the use of creativity to allow new spaces to open and be expanded.

Hey, glad you're here! Being a student is not just about education, is it? We've got lives outside of school, and all those moving parts can get us feeling overwhelmed, going a million miles per hour all the time, burnt out, lost, unmotivated, or even just numb. I work best with clients who are open to feedback, stay consistent in their care, and stay curious to explore different perspectives of their narrative. AKA, all I ask is that you show up to this space that I will prepare for you in which you can be totally you. Without the filters, photoshop, and all the overthinking of what the "right" thing to say is. You don't have to hold onto everything you're going through alone. Let's speak it out and game plan together on a weekly basis. If you feel like you don't even have the language to describe your experience, that's okay! We can build from the ground up. Maybe it'll help to think of it like this: I'm offering therapy like a key to a secret room that no one else has access to but you and I. You can learn and master skills in our therapeutic space, and it won't impact the real world at all because what happens and is heard in here, stays in here. That could look like role-playing a confrontational discussion you might've been avoiding with your roommate or just even saying an insecurity out loud for the first time and reality-checking it. It also just might be practicing how to say 'No' to different people in your life and finally setting boundaries that actually serve you. Then, when you're ready, you take those skills into the real world, and we watch your life change, perhaps slowly, but surely. Therapist shopping can definitely be overwhelming, so I invite you to get to know me through a 10-minute consultation through Zoom. I'll answer any questions, we'll be able to put a face and voice to the name, and you can feel out the overall vibe!

I take a person-centered approach to therapy. You, the client, are totally in charge of where this journey takes us. I believe that the core of successful therapy is in the bond between client and therapist. As such, I always meet my clients where they are at and work to build a strong relationship through genuine and honest conversations. I am skilled in CBT/DBT, and I hold a certification in Clinical Trauma Treatment (CCTP). Throughout my career, I have worked extensively with adolescents and young adults to build introspection, curiosity, and compassion in order to address their concerns with anxiety, depression, and trauma. Listen, life can get really messy, so let's dig in together. Because you are worthy of growth and change and happiness.

College can be an incredible time of growth—but it can also be overwhelming. Between managing academics, friendships, identity shifts, and planning for your future, it’s normal to feel stretched thin, anxious, or unsure of yourself. Therapy can be a steady place to land—a space where you can process what’s coming up, sort through decisions, and feel more like yourself again. Whether you're navigating a recent breakup, feeling disconnected or burnt out, or just needing someone to talk to who gets it—you don’t have to figure it all out on your own. I work with college students just like you to help build confidence, increase self-awareness, and support your mental, emotional, and relational health in meaningful, real-life ways. Our work is collaborative, judgment-free, and always tailored to who you are and what you need most. If your parent or caregiver is supporting you financially through therapy, that's something we can absolutely talk about—together, we’ll make sure this feels like a valuable, empowering experience for you, and a meaningful investment in your wellbeing. Your life is happening now. Let’s help you feel more stable, supported, and ready to thrive in it. College can break you in quiet ways. Maybe you’re burnt out but still grinding. Anxious but still pretending. You can’t focus, you can’t sleep, you can’t talk about it without feeling like you’re being too much—or not enough. You’re not lazy. You’re not crazy. You’re just overwhelmed, and no one taught you how to deal with it. This is where that changes. Dr. Al-Katib works with college students who are overthinking everything, underperforming despite trying, and getting swallowed by pressure—academic, emotional, social, or all of the above. He helps with ADHD, anxiety, panic, burnout, identity, emotional numbness, and everything else that comes with growing up in chaos. His style is straightforward, respectful, and never sugarcoated. You’ll get strategy, clarity, and support that actually helps you move—not just talk about it. You don’t have to be falling apart to ask for help. But if you are—good. You’ve already taken the first step.
