I am a clinical psychologist working with emerging adults and couples, specializing in issues around gender and sexuality as well as creativity and artistic identity. In practice, I believe in the utility of a strong working alliance, and strive to make you feel both understood and empowered throughout the evolution of treatment. While psychodynamic in orientation, I view my practice as integrative. Looking at patterns present in affect, behavior, and cognition, as well as through interpersonal experience, I endeavor to meet each patient where they are. I have extensive experience in couples and group therapy, particularly with non-monogamous and queer-identified populations. My clinical approach is informed by Emotion Focused Psychotherapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness. At the same time, developmental history and early attachment patterns remain fundamental to my understanding of people. I view it as an immense privilege, coupled with high responsibility, to be entrusted with someone’s vulnerability. I earned my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at CUNY City College. I also hold a Masters in Violin Performance from the Manhattan School of Music, where I subsequently served as a therapist in residence. I was formerly a violinist in the NYC-based quartet, ETHEL. My musical background and capacity for self-observation continue to inform my practice as a therapist. It is my experience that therapy provides a valuable stage, one on which you and I can imagine a different repertoire of human experience together.
You might look like you have things together on the outside—but internally, you’re dealing with anxiety, overthinking, and feeling like everyone else has it figured out except you. Sound familiar? College can be a time of growth and excitement, but I know it can also feel overwhelming and isolating, too. I work with college students who are dealing with anxiety, stress, relationship drama, and that constant “what am I doing with my life?” feeling. I’m not a “sit in silence” therapist; I take an active and collaborative approach, which means I’ll ask questions, give feedback, and help you actually make sense of what’s going on (and what to do about it). I'll give you practical tools you can actually use in your day-to-day life, and together we’ll work on building confidence and setting boundaries so you can work towards feeling more like yourself and less "stuck" in patterns that aren't serving you. If you’re ready for therapy that feels real, supportive, and actually helpful, let’s connect.

The therapists at Groundwork Therapy practice primarily from a contemporary psychodynamic perspective. From this foundation, we integrate cognitive-behavioral, dialectical-behavioral, solution-focused, and mindfulness techniques depending on each client’s individual needs. We believe that the primary goal of psychotherapy is to develop a deeper understanding of oneself, including greater awareness of compulsive, automatic or problematic patterns of behavior and how one relates to others. We believe that it is through increased self-awareness and self-understanding that individuals gain the freedom to make changes that will allow them to experience more fulfilling lives. We at Groundwork Therapy strive to create a culture of mutual curiosity about our clients’ thoughts, beliefs, feelings, behaviors, and past experiences. We believe that this therapeutic process helps individuals become more aware of those “blind spots” that keep them stuck in dysfunctional and/or unfulfilling relationships, jobs, and living situations. Additionally, we encourage patients to use the therapeutic relationship as a laboratory to safely “experiment” with new ways of communicating and interacting. In addition to guiding self-discovery, the therapists at Groundwork Therapy also foster development of effective skills and tools to better manage and navigate the stress and challenges of life. The therapists at Groundwork Therapy have extensive education, training and clinical experience in gender and sexual diversity. We utilize an affirmative approach to psychotherapy, including using only those labels and pronouns with which our clients identify. While you may identify as trans, queer, gay, sexually fluid, poly, asexual, or simply in love with someone of the same gender, we also recognize that these identities and relationships may have nothing to do with your reasons for seeking therapy. Your sexuality, gender identity, and relationships are only the focus for therapy if you want them to be so.

Utilizing an evidence based, and highly effective approach called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, you will see noticeable change in your life within 8-10 sessions. I monitor symptoms at the beginning and end of every session so we know precisely how we are doing towards meeting your goals. As your comfort with utilizing these skills improves, you will learn how to cope with the challenges you face and soon feel ready to handle them on your own! Finding a good therapist that you click with can be difficult. We applaud you for taking the first step and are committed to making your therapy experience a positive and reparative one. We provide a safe space to work through the mental health challenges you are facing. Whether you are seeking therapy for anxiety, depression, or couples therapy, we can help match you with the right therapist for your needs. ~ Most people seek therapy when they are unhappy with one or more aspects of their lives. Whether you are struggling with work, love, family or self – you might be wondering, what will really help? I believe that understanding yourself is a great gift and a power. We as people are complicated beings. It takes effort and focused attention to parse out our complexity. It takes will and bravery to face ourselves; our lives, our pasts, presents and futures. It also takes intention to appreciate our strengths and recognize the areas that need strengthening. In my practice, I will help you to discover what aspects of your current life and functioning are working well and what aspects no longer serve you. Together we will explore what you want, why you want, the obstacles in your way and how to overcome them. We start where you are and work on your goals, paying special attention to your evolution over the course of treatment. My goals, as your therapist are to gently facilitate your growth and to create a warm, sincere and safe environment that fosters trust, honesty, openness and authenticity. ~ Our clinicians do not sit back and stare at you blankly. We do not judge you. We are committed to creating a comfortable environment that fosters vulnerability and openness. We will actively help you to process your emotions and experiences and provide you with coping skills along the way. We do not provide that blank-stare judgmental type of therapy because we do not want that type of therapy. We are not cold, stuffy, or old-fashioned. Our highly skilled NYC-based therapists and psychologists work collaboratively and actively with you to achieve your goals and find relief from suffering.
We integrate traditional and alternative healing methods to support your overall well-being.
