I'm here with you through it all and will provide you with understanding, reassurance, and encouragement. My work with a wide range of clients, and my personal struggle with chronic health issues, gives me a special understanding for others who may be experiencing loss, trauma, depression, anxiety, fear, adjustment issues, and relationship challenges. People make the decision to engage in therapy for a multitude of reasons, all of which are valid. Some people may be ambivalent about making changes in their lives, while others might feel eager and ready to start the process. Regardless of where you find yourself on that continuum, I am here to support you. Although my background has mainly been focused around eating and body image, I see clients who are experiencing a variety of concerns: relationship issues, anxiety/depression, life transitions, unhappiness, etc. Prior to private practice, I worked with undergraduate and graduate students at Harvard University Counseling and Mental Health Service, with a specialty in supporting student-athletes and individuals with eating and body image concerns. I have also worked in psychiatric inpatient programs as well as eating disorder treatment programs. My therapeutic style is integrative, which means that our work together will draw on various approaches determined by your concerns and goals. My hope is for us to build a trusting relationship that will allow for honest reflection, helpful challenge, and ultimately positive change so that you may be able to lead a more fulfilling life.
By providing a warm and empathetic environment, I will collaborate with you to identify what may be holding you back from the freedom to live a more enriching life. My mission is to help you rediscover a sense of hope and encourage you to move forward with the feeling of empowerment and a renewed ability to cope with life's challenges. If desired, I enjoy integrating Christianity into our discussions.
Greetings! I’m glad that you’re here. I’m a clinical psychologist licensed to practice in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, and I provide psychotherapy to adults (18+) through secure video calls. My approach as a therapist is integrative, relationship-oriented, and social-justice informed. I specialize in working with undergraduate/graduate students, young adults, and early career/emerging professionals who are interested in exploring relationship problems, family-of-origin concerns, power and privilege dynamics, self-compassion, grief, and caregiving tendencies. I work with folks who are yearning for deeper connection to others or themselves. We all long for connection, while also fearing it. I encourage my clients to bring all parts of themselves into our work together. Come as you are! I believe in the folks I work with, and I believe in the transformative power of relationships, community, and connection to heal. To schedule a free, no-obligation 15-minute phone consultation, please contact me via email (dralvarezcounseling@protonmail.com) or phone (305-699-2024). The purpose of this initial consult is to gauge whether there is a match between your needs and the services I provide. I look forward to connecting with you and walking alongside you on your journey. Inward and onward! *** Please note that at this point in time I am only able to take insurance for BOSTON COLLEGE students who have UnitedHealthcare Student Resources.
I view therapy as a deeply collaborative and relational process. Together, we will work to develop a deeper understanding of your experiences, patterns, and emotions—helping you build insight, create meaningful change, and foster personal growth. By gaining greater self-awareness, you can begin to navigate internal and relational challenges, explore the connections between your past and present, and move toward a more intentional and fulfilling future. My approach integrates a range of therapeutic modalities, with a strong foundation in psychodynamic and relational therapy. I am also extensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which I use to support individuals in developing emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. I strive to provide person-centered care within a safe, supportive, and empathetic environment. Our work together will center on understanding your experiences more fully and finding ways to respond to them with greater clarity and intention.

I believe that people tend to know what is best for them deep down, and it is my job to assist them in discovering what they feel is the best solution. I am systemically oriented in my therapeutic work, seeing a problem as embedded in relationships either within the family, or even the larger societal system. Together, we will explore the root causes of your problems and evaluate specific approaches you can take to accomplish your goals. Another fundamental part of my approach is compassion and empathy. I tend to see the positive in people and can hold a significant amount of pain when clients reveal the hurt inside. I feel privileged to be a part of their healing journey.

People come to therapy for many different reasons, but, at the core, they are looking for understanding, relief, or growth. Maybe you’re trying to understand why you feel the way you do, or you find yourself caught in the same difficult thoughts again and again. Perhaps you’ve noticed patterns of behavior that seem to work against your own well-being. You might be facing a life transition—chosen or not—and are feeling anxious about what’s next. Or maybe you just feel stuck. Therapy offers a space to slow down and make sense of what’s happening. Together, we can clarify your current experience, explore how you got here, and begin to shape a healthier, more fulfilling path forward.
