My practice is based on the belief in the strength and resilience within all people, even in life's most trying times. Right now you may be feeling overwhelmed, lost, or disconnected from what is meaningful to you. I'd be happy to speak with you so that you may determine if I'm the right person to help you. If you feel that I am, I'll meet with you to discuss your problems, strengths, and goals. We will decide together what your long-term goals for therapy are. During each session, we will collaborate to discuss what problems you have been experiencing and how we can approach them. I'll provide feedback that may include asking you to look at the problem a different way, learning to tolerate difficult feelings, or learning skills, such as relaxation. I ask that you come prepared to session with ideas of what we should focus on. I respect the time and effort you put nto therapy, and I want it to be used in a way that is valuable to you.If you've gotten this far and think I can help, please feel free to call or email me. I offer all prospective clients a free 15-minute phone consultation.

I strive not to be one of "those" clinicians who wear a fake grin while holding a clipboard. Life is not that simple, and it doesn't need to be approached that way. I firmly embrace a person-centered approach, which affords me the freedom to explore different perspectives. If you are contemplating seeing someone, I encourage you to take the first step towards bettering yourself and understanding your own emotional depth. I offer free 15-minute screenings to consult and see if I would be a good fit for you; otherwise, I am more than happy to help you find a provider that has the most potential impact for your needs.

Helping people feel more connected, alive and easeful in a difficult world is what excites me about the therapeutic process. While living with mental health challenges, it is difficult to know how to get unstuck or even to remember a time when things felt okay. I work collaboratively with clients to build on their strengths and identify goals that align with their values. We all develop strategies for survival that can be limiting over time. We can create more options that go beyond old strategies through practicing new ways of relating, recognizing nervous system patterns and strengthening the mind-body connection. Some of the approaches and techniques I use include parts work, attachment theory, mind-body therapy, guided visualization, somatic and movement based therapy. I am trauma focused and informed with an understanding of how systemic oppression contributes to illness, especially for those whose identities are devalued or erased.

I worked in university counseling centers for over 10 years before transitioning to full-time private practice, and really enjoy working with undergraduate and graduate students. College and graduate school is often a time to better understand and define who you are and what does and does not work for you and for promoting your wellbeing. As a psychologist, I work to help clients understand themselves better in the unique context and experiences of their own lives so as to figure out what each individual needs to be well, which may be very different than what you think you should need to be well. I also work to help clients not only manage their symptoms and distress, but also understand the root causes of their symptoms and distress. I believe that this deeper understanding can often lead to transformative healing.

If you’re struggling with an eating disorder or trauma you may feel stuck in cycles that once helped you cope but now feel overwhelming, isolating, or out of control. I specialize in supporting individuals healing from eating disorders and attachment-related trauma. Disordered eating often develops as a way to cope. Together, we explore these patterns with curiosity and compassion while building safer, more sustainable ways to cope. I hold advanced training in eating disorder treatment, am an Inclusive Eating Disorder Specialist (IEDS), and am fully trained in EMDR to help process trauma at the root, not just manage symptoms. We believe that psychological well-being and healing come from our ability to foster awareness, understanding and acceptance of our experience of life as a whole - the good, the bad and everything in between. Talking with a therapist can often help facilitate this kind of personal growth. We believe that through developing a trusting relationship, therapist and client can explore aspects of the client’s struggle and the experience of relating to each other in deeper, more honest and productive ways. While each therapist in our practice has a unique approach to the work, we all share a deep appreciation for the importance of meaning making and lived experience in understanding human experience and effective therapy.

I'm a licensed psychologist specializing in trauma, anxiety, depression, body image, and disordered eating. If you're ready to move beyond the surface, therapy can be a space to get curious and explore the parts of your experience that often go unspoken. Going deep means making room to understand the patterns that have shaped you and discovering new ways of relating to yourself and others. We'll explore both your past and your present with the hope of helping you better understand yourself and create meaningful change. I bring my authentic self into each session and encourage you to bring your full self as well. I believe the therapeutic relationship can be a powerful part of the healing process, and I welcome honest feedback about our work together. I'm attentive to the nuances of identity and committed to integrating a social justice approach into my work. Therapy can be a process of healing and transformation, with challenging moments along the way. I'm honored to join you in this process and work through those moments together. Prior to Forward Wellness, I was a staff therapist at CaPS at Carnegie Mellon University.
