Therapists for college students near University of Pennsylvania
I’m not your “just nod and validate everything” therapist. I have a B.S. from Penn State and an M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (Children, Adolescents, and Trauma) from Lock Haven—but more importantly, I meet you where you are, not where you “should” be. I use person-centered and parts work, but I’m flexible and tailor therapy to what actually works for you. I love working with teens and young adults, but if you’ve got a brain and feelings, we’ll get along. I’m direct, I use humor, and I’ll call you out (with care). I’m here to help you grow—even when it’s uncomfortable. My style? Person-centered and parts work at the core, with flexibility built in. I adjust, pivot, and pull from different approaches based on what actually helps you, not what sounds the most clinical or impressive. I want all of my clients to walk into my room and feel as though they are sitting down with a friend, not a professional. I focus heavily on building rapport, getting to know you as an individual and not just as "my client." We will laugh, cry, process, and cope together in your mental wellness journey!
I worked in university counseling centers for over 10 years before transitioning to full-time private practice, and really enjoy working with undergraduate and graduate students. College and graduate school is often a time to better understand and define who you are and what does and does not work for you and for promoting your wellbeing. As a psychologist, I work to help clients understand themselves better in the unique context and experiences of their own lives so as to figure out what each individual needs to be well, which may be very different than what you think you should need to be well. I also work to help clients not only manage their symptoms and distress, but also understand the root causes of their symptoms and distress. I believe that this deeper understanding can often lead to transformative healing.
Hello! I am Codie Piotrowski, a licensed professional counselor with over five years of experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults. I have supported clients across various settings, including schools, residential facilities, hospitals, and outpatient offices, which has allowed me to develop a flexible and compassionate approach to care. I specialize in animal-assisted therapy, using the human-animal connection as a unique and supportive way to help clients feel comfortable, engaged, and understood. I also incorporate art, play, and music expression into sessions to help clients explore emotions, build coping skills, and work toward their personal goals in ways that feel meaningful and approachable. My approach is person-centered and trauma-informed, focusing strongly on building positive therapeutic relationships and meeting each client where they are. I draw from evidence-based modalities including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and I am currently pursuing EMDR Certification. My goal is to create a safe, supportive, and collaborative environment where clients feel empowered to grow, heal, and thrive.
This is an adult practice that works with individuals who are struggling with mood disorders, grief/loss, anxiety, and relationship issues.
We all want to be happy. We may feel stuck or face challenges. Getting support from someone on the outside, in the counseling or psychology field, can help you gain a new perspective. You can learn to make better choices, feel less anxious and feel more optimistic; find peace in the day-to-day. In my practice, I see adults, children, adolescents, couples, and families, and here’s a little bit about how I work: I work in the here-and-now and have background training in Gestalt theory and utilize a variety of psychotherapy techniques. I take a creative and practical approach to counseling that allows you to understand more quickly what drives you and helps you identify new and better ways of living. Quieting the “noise” that distracts you will help so you can focus your energy on what’s meaningful and fulfilling. I earned my masters in Counseling Psychology from Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA in 2007 and went on to complete the necessary 3+ years of post-graduate training to qualify for a psychotherapy license in the state of PA. I am paneled with many of the major commercial insurance plans as well as several employee assistance programs. During my 17 years experience as a counselor and research clinician, I was trained to utilize several semi-structured interviewing tools such as KSADS, SCID, and ISCA-D. I have published social psychology testing materials at the University of Pittsburgh while working on several major nationally-funded depression and anxiety studies under Doctors Birmaher, Axelson, and Kovacs. In 2010, I spent a year as a volunteer with the Good Grief Center of Pittsburgh where I had extensive training in grief counseling. In addition to my clinical skills, I hold a substance abuse education/SAP certification from UPMC. I strive not to be one of "those" clinicians who wear a fake grin while holding a clipboard. Life is not that simple, and it doesn't need to be approached that way. I firmly embrace a person-centered approach, which affords me the freedom to explore different perspectives. If you are contemplating seeing someone, I encourage you to take the first step towards bettering yourself and understanding your own emotional depth. I offer free 15-minute screenings to consult and see if I would be a good fit for you; otherwise, I am more than happy to help you find a provider that has the most potential impact for your needs.
If you feel overwhelmed, confused, anxious or alone, it might help to have someone on your side to help you sort through the mess without judging you. I enjoy helping fellow humans adjusting to changes big and small, experiencing anxiety, perfectionism and self-esteem issues, questioning sexual/gender identity, or struggling with disordered eating and/or body image. We will work together in a way that aligns with what you need at the time, whether that's coping strategies to manage daily stressors or a nonjudgmental space to process what's happened to you and figure out where you want to go from here. I will acknowledge how your identities (including LGBTQIA+, neurocomplexity, and disability) intersect with each other and the environment, and can help you know yourself better and become more self-empowered and self-compassionate.

My experiences stem from working with children of all ages within a variety of educational and therapeutic settings that ultimately led towards my work with at-risk children as a Family Based Therapist. Working hands on with families in their homes within authentic and relational setting(s) (i.e., home and community) had shaped my learning experiences and identified my growth as a person and a therapist. My work prepared me to differentiate my therapeutic approaches and enable connections that no traditional clinical experience could offer. Fast forward, working as a Licensed Professional Counselor, I have the privilege to work with a variety of populations, with clients ranging from mild to severe mental health conditions. I offer a warm safe setting that enables a professional therapeutic collaboration and growth towards client centered therapeutic goals. I continue to rely upon evidenced based interventions to help guide our therapeutic relationship towards progress or help uncover potential barriers to that may impede your therapeutic progress.

Talking about your feelings can be incredibly hard to do, especially in a fast-paced life where emotions feel like they can get in the way. I work hard to build a warm, emotionally-safe space in therapy in which you can share and explore your thoughts and feelings at a pace that challenges you, but doesn’t feel overwhelming. Utilizing cognitive behavioral, family therapy, and mindfulness interventions, I help patients to increase awareness and improve their relationship with their emotions. Whether you’re just curious or feeling ready to work on your emotional wellbeing, I’m glad that you found me. I’m always excited to support someone in taking better care of themselves!
