I believe that psychotherapy is fundamentally about discovering a deeper sense of personal meaning, self-understanding, and self-acceptance. Together, within the therapeutic relationship, we will pay attention to the stuck places with curiosity and compassion so that over time you may come to know and understand your thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a new and enlivened way. I work collaboratively with those facing various difficulties and life transitions, as well as those looking to enter a more exploratory therapy to enhance self-understanding. I work within an anti-racist and gender affirming framework and am guided by psychodynamic, relational, and trauma-informed principles. I welcome undergrad and graduate students to my practice and will work with you to deepen understanding of how early experiences may be shaping current circumstances, address present day concerns, and develop tools for making real and lasting change.

Is there something you've always hesitated to say out loud, because if you did, nothing would stay the same? Or… Like in that serenity prayer, are you looking for the difference between what you can change and what you have to accept? Serenity's hard to come by in these ominous times, and certainty can be fleeting. This is your one shot here, so claim your place, speak your truth. Let’s figure out what you need and what you already have, so you can accept yourself even when it’s hard, and participate fully in your own life. What you believe is your Kryptonite may also be the root of your superpower. I'd even bet on it. Therapy with me can be talky, weepy, big laughs, companionable silence. It's my job to understand your world as YOU see it. I’m devoted to helping you figure out how you feel—and what to do—about what matters most in your life. I'll be listening for the stories you carry around in your head, and whether they're kind, whether they serve or oppress you. My default position is to accept and support you as you are, without judgment. We’ll make use of my training, life experience, imagination and intellect to gain perspective on your relationships, past, and present. We’ll experiment with ways for you to manage difficult emotions, feel compassion toward yourself and others, and live with integrity and purpose.

Axis Mundi Center for Mental Health is a not-for-profit 501c3 charitable endeavor that provides affordable therapy and counseling services while seeking to address the growing and dire need for multi-culturally competent clinicians. Axis Mundi Center for Mental Health believes that authenticity is a big part of getting therapy right. We also know that one of the best indicators of therapy success is the rightness of fit between the therapist and the client! That means it's vital for you to have a sense of who we are, and that old models of "invisibility" in a therapist aren't going to contribute to you making a good choice. Our clinicians get that and identify themselves in ways that are personal, genuine, and still respectful and committed to all of the ways that therapy is all about YOU. We are a part of a growing trend in mental health services that acknowledges and seeks to address the need for therapists and counselors who are culturally humble. We are devoted to developing that awareness and skill-set, and are a diverse and growing group of practitioners who offer a variety of approaches to mental wellness…Traditional treatment like CBT and psychodynamic psychotherapy, holistic and somatic therapy methods, indigenous approaches, and spiritual perspectives are all offered. We work on a sliding scale from $30 and up depending on the practitioner. The initial consultation with our intake coordinator is free! We’re here to change and challenge what therapy has meant and who it’s been accessible to. Our group of licensed and pre-licensed clinicians have a varying range of expertise and styles. We invite you to visit our website or reach out for an intake to find folks who feel like a good fit!

Based in the SF Bay Area, I offer trauma-informed psychological treatment for post-traumatic stress, addiction, grief, anxiety, depression, and related life challenges, as well as support for positive growth and insight building. I primarily utilize a combination of EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) and IFS (internal family systems) therapies to provide a somatic and source-focused approach to healing. I educate my clients on the universality of traumatic and addictive experiences. I define trauma broadly as any past experience that remains charged and disturbing, and thus has value in alleviating mental health challenges in the present. It's helpful to understand how traumatic and addictive elements exists in all of us and are not static, but rather ebb and flow as reverberations of past experiences (and those of our family of origin). l frame the looping amplification of addiction as stemming from a healthy evolutionary need to feel safe and easeful, but in a way that can become self-destructive through the distortion of trauma that resides in our nervous systems, until processed.

Psychiatrist
Oakland, CA

I am a board-certified psychiatrist practicing transpersonal,non-dual, holistic as well as traditional psychiatry in the SF Bay Area for over 25 years. My office is located in Oakland, CA in a location conveniently located to easy parking and public transportation. My office is located in a suite of other psychotherapy offices on the second floor of a two story building which also houses other medical professionals. Unfortunately, it is not handicapped accessible. It is a lovely office, tastefully decorated with natural lighting. My psychotherapy work emphasizes the mind/body/spirit connection. By connecting to each client with sensitivity and a compassionate attitude, a safe space is created which allows the client to access their deeper wisdom and self-healing resources. Drawing from a wealth of training and experience, I use both traditional and complementary psychotherapy approaches as well as evidence-based natural supplements and pharmaceuticals. I have expertise in EMDR, somatic-based trauma reduction and meditation. I also have basic knowledge of functional medicine, and can recommend a healing dietary foundation if that is needed. The first 2 visits or so are designed to explore your basic needs and whether we would be a "fit" to work together. I am not prepared to transition clients to a psychiatric hospital as my practice is outpatient only and I do not have psychiatric hospital admitting privileges. Because I specialize in psychotherapy, I see limited clients for medication management only. I respect the courage it takes to reach out for help in the time of need and try to treat each client with dignity and compassion.

I use a somatic (body-based) approach through which we enter into our inner landscape through the body rather than just through the mind. We uncover patterns and ways of being which may be stuck and not moving, and we build our capacity to move with them or out of them. There is no fixed diagnosis or “fix” here, there is movement toward a fuller expression of you within your own life experience. In addition to my lived and learned experience, what I offer to you as a client is this: an invitation to try on moving more fully with your own lived experience (trauma and pain, joy and celebration, mental health/ illness, intersectional identities, and oppressive systems) in your own body, at your pace, and with choice points.

My practice is focused on psychological testing using the Collaborative Assessment Model. The assessment process is a collaboration between myself and clients to identify what they'd like to understand about themselves using the testing measures. Testing is focused on thinking and processing information, academic areas of strength and challenge, executive functioning (like attention, organization, etc.), and emotional functioning and needs. Feedback from the testing is reviewed and we work together to make sense of the findings and identify next steps for support and growth.
