My name is David Serbin. I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT #147386) and Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC #15666). Through therapy, I work with clients to help them see the positive storylines in their lives. I help make counseling fun for clients through narrative building, developing strategies for challenging negative self-talk, self-exploration of strengths, and games, among other ways. I believe that each client has the main ingredient for success in therapy: hope. I love working with young adults who are trying to find out who they are. My clients are motivated and driven, yet searching for deeper meaning and purpose in their lives. They often feel they have unmet needs or goals they want to achieve but have yet to accomplish. In our first session, we'll start with introductions, then dive into the challenges you're facing and hopes for our work together. Having worked with individuals and couples over the past 5 years, I've been able to offer compassion to people who have been in environments where they could not be open about their mental health or only experienced tough love. I strive to create an environment where you will feel safe to be your true self. I often assign homework between sessions. This may include worksheets or journaling exercises. Contact me if you are interested in booking a consult or therapy session and I will do my best to respond within a few hours.
You want to feel better. There's a lot of reasons for starting therapy, but they usually boil down to that. You might be feeling overwhelmed with worry, disconnected from meaningful activities and relationships, or just overwhelmed with life transitions. I want you to know that you're not alone in these feelings, and therapy can be a great way to see your problems in a new light, identify exciting new goals, and ultimately...feel better. I work from a strengths-based, client-centered, and solution focused perspective that emphasizes the healing power of the therapeutic relationship. If you're interested in working with me, or would like to know more about how therapy could help you, I invite you to contact me to set up a free consultation session to see if we're a good fit, or if I could direct you to one of my trusted colleagues. Thank you!
I believe in the spirit of human potential, and finds purpose in working with others to create an environment for positive transformation, personal development, and healing. I would describe myself as a holistic practitioner finding inspiration from many different wisdom traditions. As a yoga & meditation teacher, my approach stems from Eastern philosophy, specifically Tibetan Buddhism.
Welcome! Therapy isn't for broken people, it's for anyone wishing to be happy and function at their best. I help students who are anxious, who have a hard time staying focused and grounded, and who worry a lot, to understand their mind and emotions in ways that help everything make sense and reduce their symptoms to a place where they feel in control. I look forward to helping you and having some fun along the way!
My psychotherapy practice serves Gen Z throughout California using a trauma informed, body based approach to help with the existential anxieties of being a young adult today. My work strives to deepen my client’s relationships with themselves and others, helping them to be more emotionally literate, embodied, clearer where their boundaries are and able to regulate their nervous systems. Together we think about families, cultural and personal trauma and their effects on the body. Our therapeutic relationship is a laboratory to practice relationship. I am a highly sensitive person, a yogi, mindfulness practitioner, a parent, partner, athlete, world traveler, dancer and musician. I draw on all those influences and my compassion to be the ally you need.
Trauma, challenges and transitions compel us to re-examine our lives, values and patterns. Together we can find and unwind the stuck energies of depression, anxiety and other difficulties so that you can get on the path for success and fulfillment. I welcome all people, and have extra experience with students, as well as those who have endured trauma, neglect and abuse that can affect self-esteem, focus and having successful relationships. I offer a warm, down-to earth, and authentic presence. My life has been dedicated to the healing arts; training, apprenticing, studying and like us all, learning from life. I strive to create a container for connection and safety. You have the power and inner wisdom to create a good life. Sometimes we need someone to help us clear the way.

I am an integrative therapist who draws from cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness/ meditation, motivational interviewing and positive psychology, using a patient centered empowerment model and an inclusive feminist lens. I earned my B.A. in Psychology from University of California Santa Cruz and M.A. of Clinical Counseling at Palo Alto University. I am experienced in counseling a wide variety of socioeconomic backgrounds, ethnicities, religions, and interests. In particular I specialize in working with LGBTQIA+ and gender non-binary people using an inclusive feminist lens and empowerment model. I focus on treating anxiety, depression, behavioral disorders, and interpersonal relationship difficulties.
I meet clients virtually to quiet negative self-talk and build resilience in their nervous systems using a patent pending somatic processing tool. With a stronger nervous system, it’s easier to not be overwhelmed, in fact your baseline becomes calm, less triggered, and more balanced. Clients routinely report resolution of panic attacks; resolving the underlying causes of the negative self talk; resolving the root causes of anxiety, depression, rage, and numbness; having better relationships; and understanding their emotions better. This transformative work addresses the nonverbal impact of stressful/traumatic experiences including feelings, sensations, emotions, muscle tension, numbness and dissociation; the areas where talking is not effective. Benefits typically begin with the first session. We use CBD, medical cannabis, or ketamine assisted virtual sessions to activate brain areas that facilitate safely processing emotions, and make new brain cell connections (associated with learning and working around blocks) among many other benefits. Many patients complain about the emotional numbness and other symptoms caused by their psych medications. Because I am a medical doctor, as patients improve I am able to help wean them off of their meds when appropriate. Insurance is not accepted, but sliding scale payments are. I am a board-certified, Cornell and Mount Sinai-trained adult and child psychiatrist in New York and California. My approach to treatment is holistic and firmly rooted in the science of the brain, combining psychotherapy (for individuals, families, and couples) with nutrition, lifestyle modification, as well as state-of-the-art medication treatment, when helpful. I view each person as a complex individual with a unique story to tell, so I take time getting to know my clients and work collaboratively to develop a targeted plan to achieve their treatment goals. I have expertise in treating depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, tic, ADHD, ODD, personality disorders, and eating disorders in children, teens, adults, and in pregnant and breastfeeding women. I also work with adults transitioning into parenthood, and with infants and toddlers. I am available for consultations and second opinions. I do not accept insurance (payment is out of pocket), but I do provide invoices for out-of-network claims. I do not take medicaid or medicare at this time.
