As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor working with adults 18 and over, I help people navigate anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, life transitions, and the unconscious patterns that may be limiting their growth. At the heart of my work is a belief in the healing power of self-awareness and the therapeutic relationship. This belief helps me show up as a compassionate and collaborative partner throughout your therapeutic journey. I look forward to helping you build insight, emotional freedom, and more fulfilling relationships in our work together. I'm passionate about helping people develop greater self-awareness and create meaningful, lasting change by understanding the deeper roots of their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors — and I bring that same spirit of inquiry to every session. My specialty is psychodynamic and relational therapy, practiced in a space that is warm, nonjudgmental, and tailored to you. With a psychodynamic lens, we explore how unconscious patterns from past relationships shape your present thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. In relational therapy, the therapeutic relationship itself becomes a mirror, a way to uncover patterns of connection that may be affecting how you relate to others and to yourself. No matter the modality, I ensure a compassionate, collaborative, and curious approach that is personalized to your unique history, goals, and lived experiences. My path to becoming a therapist began with a lifelong curiosity about why people are the way they are and how their life experiences influence who they become. That curiosity grew into a passion for helping others make sense of their stories. Now, my commitment has grown into a dedication to thoughtful, relationship-centered care that honors each person's unique story. Into every session, I bring genuine curiosity and a commitment to exploring the deeper roots of emotional patterns. Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy reading fiction, staying active through exercise, and spending quality time with friends – all hobbies that help me recharge, stay grounded, and appreciate the importance of balance, connection, and lifelong learning. They also teach me insightful values that influence the way I approach my work as a therapist.

Some of the most meaningful moments in my work have come from patients who carried their struggles alone for far too long — people who finally decided, on their own terms, that something needed to change. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), I work with young adults to older adults from a wide range of socioeconomic statuses, upbringings, faiths, and political affiliations who may be navigating depression, anxiety, stress, and trauma. Of these, the ones who truly stand out are those who were honestly determined to seek treatment for their own betterment. What you bring to our work together matters deeply to me. If you're arriving with a genuine willingness to make real change in your life, we'll build on that foundation. Together, we'll develop a structured treatment plan with clear objectives oriented around your SMART goals, moving toward measurable growth rather than simply managing symptoms. My approach is rooted in respect, honest partnership, and the belief that treatment works best when it's something you've chosen for yourself. Whatever brings you here, my hope is to help you grow into a version of yourself you may not have realized you could be. Drawing on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness-based stress management techniques, I help you address the immediate obstacles you're facing, while using a psychodynamic approach to work through the deeper roots of core issues that may stem from key past experiences. I approach every session with respect, compassion, and open-mindedness, so you are empowered to achieve this healing in an environment where you feel safe, comfortable, and free to express yourself without fear of judgment. You can also expect to work with a therapist who understands what it means to be human, which is to be imperfect regardless of skillset or background. I recognize and accept that certain flaws are simply part of one's character, and whether those are things to actively work on will always be a decision we make together. By drawing on my own experiences, within appropriate limits, and even humor when appropriate, you feel recognized as a full person with emotions rather than a case to be managed. Mental health struggles are not strangers to me. I've navigated my own battles with depression, anxiety, and traumatic loss, and have been blessed with the genuine fortune of working through those experiences with skilled therapists and mentors who shaped both who I am and how I practice. These experiences are foundational to my work now. Growing up, I was taught that kindness and respect are the conditions under which real trust is built. That lesson has stayed with me. In my practice, I believe warmth and acceptance aren't just values to aspire to — they are clinical necessities. Treatment is most effective when the person receiving it feels genuinely welcomed, regardless of background, upbringing, faith, or life experience. All patients who come ready to do the work are welcome. To anyone considering treatment for the first time: give it an honest chance. The willingness to show up is often the hardest part, and it's worth it. Music has been a constant in my life. I play guitar and bass, write songs, and sing. Video games are another genuine passion; I've logged serious hours in Skyrim, compete enthusiastically in Mario Kart, and have recently been deep into Marvel Rivals (among others). When schedules align, spending time with family and friends is where I love to be.

I believe that all of us have had some challenges in our lives whether that translates to bigger traumas or smaller hardships. As a result of our challenges, we have beliefs about who we are and our place in the world. I use evidence-based practices including EMDR to identify and manage triggers that may manifest in fear, anxiety, and negative beliefs about who we are and what we deserve. Let me help you break free from your People-Pleasing, Perfectionist, and/or Procrastinating tendencies and find peace with being your authentic self.

The college students I work best with are thoughtful, curious, and trying hard, even if it doesn’t always feel that way. Many are dealing with anxiety, perfectionism, or OCD and feel overwhelmed by the pressure to succeed, figure things out quickly, or keep it all together. Some struggle with focus, motivation, or routines, even though they care deeply about their goals. A lot of my clients tell me they feel stuck in their heads, constantly overthinking, procrastinating, or second-guessing themselves. They’re tired of feeling like they’re falling behind and want someone who truly understands and can offer tools that actually help. In our work, we make space for what’s difficult while building real strategies to help you feel more grounded, capable, and clear about what you want.

Health and wellness are not linear and will only evolve within a dynamic and complex interplay of the many systems in our lives. I firmly believe that promoting mental health is a part of this interplay. I can help you with exploring those systems relevant to your mental health and developing strategies and routines to promote a robust everyday experience. I call this promoting your mental “Wellth”; because we can consider ourselves wealthy when our whole being is supported and living in abundance, not just our financials. My hope for the clients that I work with is that you will find the experience of working on your presenting needs and concerns to be a robust challenge. One that brings you closer to being the person you know you can be and closer to maintaining the lifestyle and relationships that are ideal for you.

Individuals who find Advika Anand, therapist and EMDR practitioner, are often feeling stuck—trapped in cycles of overthinking, stress, or sadness. Life may feel like sinking in quicksand, with thoughts and emotions pulling them deeper the more they struggle. Advika’s approach to therapy is collaborative, trauma-informed, and rooted in both somatic and evidence-based practices. She works alongside clients to create a sense of safety, build self-awareness, and gently explore the root causes of distress at a pace that feels comfortable. Her work often involves processing trauma, building emotional resilience, and developing practical skills for personal growth. Advika believes that healing is a two-step process: addressing sources of distress while also equipping clients with mental and emotional tools to thrive.

I believe that therapy, with a therapist who can help you feel safe, secure and seen, can restore our inherent joy, curiosity, creativity, and connectedness, which are often impaired or lost altogether as a result of trauma or past attachment wounds. I am a relational therapist and specialize in exploring patterns that come from our families of origin, relationships with ourselves, with our friends, romantic partners, and children, as well as relationships with food and substances. I tailor treatment to each client’s unique needs by incorporating modalities such as Internal Family Systems, psychodynamic psychotherapy, somatic work, CBT, DBT, and mindfulness. Regardless of approach, what is transformative in therapy occurs in the relational dynamic.

I work primarily with adolescents, young adults, and young professionals through life transitions, relational challenges, and forging identity. Prior to going into private practice, I worked for New York University's Counseling and Wellness Services, seeing the university's dynamic undergraduate and graduate students. I often see those grappling with depression, anxiety, trauma, relational concerns, or sexual concerns. I have a specialty in working with eating and body image concerns/disorders from a Health At Every Size lens. I have niche expertise in concerns related to bariatric (weight loss) surgery and dramatic weight loss. I am LGBTQIA+ allied and often work with those exploring gender and sexuality. I work from a psychodynamic, attachment-based framework, and blend tangible skills to help alleviate your pain in the day-to-day and enhance your relationships. I am a person first, therapist second, and may utilize my own reactions and feelings to help us better understand your relationships in the world. From me, you can expect curiosity, warmth, and lots of questions about your experience to make sure I get it right. I try to leave you with interpretations of your challenges, new ways to think about your current circumstances, and things to try differently.

As a licensed Mental Health Counselor, my passion is in collaborating with clients to help strengthen their personal strategies and to find a life worth living. I believe that with the right tools and motivation, my clients are able to manage the difficulties that life has given them. Clients learn to trust themselves and develop ways to learn coping skills and increase their sense of self-worth through continued practice in our sessions. The idea to go into psychology was sparked by my own experiences with depression, grief, interpersonal conflicts, and trauma. In college, I went to a therapist and learned to cope with the challenges that I had been facing since my adolescence. As a result, I was completely enamored with learning about how the mind works and why people behave the way they do. I believe that with my own personal experiences, I can create a safe and non-judgmental environment for my clients, so that they may grow and heal. In my practice, I utilize an integrative approach, and holistic, person oriented theories. I am certified in Dialectical behavioral therapy and specialize working with personality disorders, interpersonal difficulties, trauma, and work with other mental health conditions as well.

Are you a creative person with high aspirations experiencing procrastination, perfectionism, and a hostile inner critic? Do you want to feel more free in your work or your relationships? Do you feel anxious or depressed and want to obsess less and laugh more? We will think together to figure out why you feel stuck, and how you will transform. We will collaborate to your unique strengths, using an eclectic approach. I am a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist in the state of New York and received my Master's Degree from New York University in drama therapy. I am fortunate to have worked with individuals from many continents. I strive to be aware of the power and privilege I have in the therapy space. I invite dialogue and play for exploring issues of cultural identity, race, class, trauma and abuse of power. Sometimes people reach out to therapy after a big life change, or sometimes with a sense that things feel off. Perhaps patterns keep repeating, emotions feel overwhelming or hard to reach, or a person feels disconnected from themself or others. If this resonates with you, please contact me today. As a psychodynamic therapist with more than four years of experience, I help adults better understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors so they can feel more present and fulfilled in their day-to-day life. My approach is psychodynamic and trauma informed to help you better navigate anxiety, depression, or major life changes while working toward deeper self-understanding and changes that feel meaningful in your everyday life. In each session, we explore how past experiences might be influencing the way you think, feel, and relate to others today. At the same time, I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness to keep our work focused in the present, helping you notice patterns as they come up, shift unhelpful thoughts, and feel more grounded in everyday life. Prior to my role at SOL Mental Health, I worked for more than four years in community mental health in New York City. This experience deepened my commitment to providing warm, compassionate, and individualized care in a collaborative space where patients feel supported, understood, and empowered to move forward with more clarity and intention. Outside of sessions, I enjoy reading, cooking, and intentional movement through exercising and taking long walks.
