I love working with people of all ages who are seeking to understand themselves and other significant people in their lives! It is my joy to help my clients find peace and make meaning of both the usual challenges in life and the events that threaten to rob us of hope. My work life before becoming a therapist in 1997 included working in child welfare, teaching in China, and volunteering in religious activities. As a therapist my training and experience have been focused on themes of attachment, relationships, grief, loss, trauma, and spirituality. If you are wondering who I am as a person, I am a spouse, mother of four grown children, "Mimi" to five grandchildren, and oldest sibling in a large tribe. When not working I love to read, make quilts, play board games, cook and just spend time with the people I love.

I have served as Director of 2 college counseling centers, and have worked in 5 others. I am only doing virtual appointments. I know the stress of being a student can be overwhelming, especially if you are also dealing with a mental health condition like depression or anxiety; a neurological difference like ADHD or autism; or a medical condition like an autoimmune disorder or chronic pain. I use humor, compassion, irreverence, and creativity to help you feel better and more empowered.

I provide specialized therapy that is individually tailored to help you solve your problems and realize your potential. Clients regularly describe my approach as effective and enjoyable since it combines practical skills with a deeper understanding of the self. Clients also appreciate that I bring authenticity, determination, and humor into the healing journey. I have extensive experience helping people from a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, and I regularly work with clients in the LGBTQIA+ community. I have particular expertise and interest in working with individuals who struggle with anxiety, OCD, depression, perfectionism, self-expression, difficult life adjustments (college or otherwise), relationship issues, and addictions. To treat OCD, I specifically use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold standard in OCD treatment. Hi, I'm Matt Sosnowsky, a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) based in Center City Philadelphia. I work with adults in their 20s, 30s, and 40s — including a lot of people who are navigating the transition from college into "real life," or who are a few years in and finding that things feel harder than they expected. My clients are often high-functioning: they're doing well by most measures, but something underneath is off — anxiety that won't quit, a low-grade depression they can't shake, relationships that aren't working, or a nagging sense that they're not living the life they actually want. That's exactly the kind of work I find most meaningful. I'm particularly interested in men's mental health, and I work with a lot of guys who have never tried therapy before and aren't sure what to expect. My approach tends to be direct, collaborative, and grounded — less abstract exploration, more working through what's actually going on and figuring out what to do about it. Sessions are available in-person near Rittenhouse Square and via telehealth across PA, NJ, MD, VA, and DC. I'm an out-of-network provider, and I'm happy to help you understand what that means for your insurance.
